Real Madrid vs Liverpool

This is where I came in…. A team in all red versus a team in all white. This time it’s Real Madrid and not Leeds United. Both of them famed for playing some great football but also all too willing to embrace the darker arts with a win at all costs attitude. I will though settle for the same score as that 1965 FA Cup Final, with a 2-1 win to Liverpool. It is just a question of who is going to be our Saint this time.

Real have played in white since their inception except for one season in 1925 when they wore black shorts. This was an attempt by the owners to emulate the London based team Corinthians who were famed for their elegance and sense of fair play. Clearly, Real couldn’t live up to this ethos so they pretty quickly dropped their shorts (Ooer Missus) along with any pretence of good sportsmanship. This also cleared the way for them to subsequently sign a player like Ramos and employ a manager like Zidane.

It goes without saying that this tie will be a Real challenge for Liverpool in more ways than one. Despite an indifferent season by their high standards Real Madrid are now coming into form and pushing for top spot in la Liga. Fortunately, as far as form is concerned the same can also be said for Liverpool. We will though find out whether our changed defence, newly restored midfield and our amazing front three four can once again rise to a very Real challenge and still give us a season to remember for all the right reasons. Can Kayak and Phillips contain Benzema….. and more to the point can Real cope with our attack?

The team selection will be interesting. I think Klopp will stick with what he knows and will choose to start with and despite Jota’s performance against Arsenal I think he will be on the bench. Team: Mercury, TAA, Phillips, Kayak, Rambo, Fab, Goni, Thiago, Miss Mane, Firmino, Shrimp.
