A somewhat disjointed return to action then, typical of a 12:30 kick off after an international break.

Thiago (McMOTM) was the only player really on it from the get go and some of his touches and passing were absolutely out of this world. Really need him to stay fit for the run in.

The deadlock was broken from a familiar position – an excellent cross from our RB nodded in by Jota, except it was Joe Gomez with the Trent-esque assist. I thought Gomez was excellent yesterday, driving forward and even showing off his dribbling skills. Hopefully he’s finally put to bed the myth that he can’t play RB.

Curtis Jones struggled again I thought. I know he’s young but he’s at an elite club and if he doesn’t start making an impact in games when he does get a chance, then the nature of big clubs means someone will soon take his place.

Salah’s form is something of a concern as well, he hasn’t been on it since AFCON really and we could do with our top scorer hitting top form for the run in as we go in search of more trophies.

At this stage of the season however, the result is all that matters and the three points briefly put us top of the league, something which looked impossible just a few months ago. The clash with City really does look like it could be the title decider, with neither team giving an inch in the league, as they responded to our win yesterday with a 2-0 win of their own.

Benfica next then and I expect Klopp will ring the changes once more. I expect Díaz and Mane to start in place of Bobby and Jota and also expect changes to the midfield. Tsimikas and Konate may get a run out as well, although Klopp has shown a reluctance to make too many defensive changes this season. No wonder after last season to be fair.

I don’t ever remember a more exciting finish to a season as we chase down every trophy available but as Soop says, it’s gonna be hell of a ride. Walk on!
