Liverpool v Manchester United

I am looking forward to seeing how the new look Liverpool will fare against the very highest quality opposition but, before then, we have a warm-up game against United.😁

Given the strong line-up of world class attackers in this game, I am expecting it to be very high scoring. I am going to stick my neck out and say three each. Three for Nunez, three for Salah and three for Diaz…. (ok, ok I stole that from a Liverpool fan interviewed before (I think) an FA Cup final in the early 80’s, possibly against Everton, but don’t hold me to that)

I don’t think we can read too much into a pre-season friendly, where full use will be made of substitutions and where the entire team might well be changed at half time. So, if by some freak of nature, we end up losing the game, it will mean nothing in the big scheme of things, as it is all about getting the players up to speed. If, on the other hand and as expected, we thrash them, then, of course, it will be a clear indication of the respective seasons to come for both teams battling away at opposite ends of the table.

One great piece of team news for all Liverpool fans ahead of the game is confirmation that Ronaldo will be staying at United for at least another season . The new Manu manager (Ten Hags**) has said that no one wants him he is key to their development going forwards. I am sure I speak for all Liverpool fans, but very few Manchester United ones, when I say this is the news we’ve all been hoping for. Another piece of good news, hot off the press, is that Harry Maguire will continue as Captain. It keeps on getting better and better – a non playing Captain. All we need now is a contract extension for Fernandes.

**coincidentally, this was also the first item on Rooney’s Christmas wish list….

Oh by the way the game is 1400 BST
