The season that offered so much.
Off the back of 21/22 the new season promised so much. Unfortunately it didn’t exactly go to plan.
The heading basically says what happened last season but is it deeper, more of a accumulation of things that have occurred over a number of years?
There will be different opinions on this, which is the reason I’m writing this to find out your personal take on it.
For a few years now some have suggested we haven’t invested in the team. Others say we have, so which is it? It’s suggested FSG are milking the club for profits. Are they? They’ve never actually taken a penny out of the club to line their own pockets. They’ve invested heavily in the clubs infrastructure such as two stadium upgrades and the training facility in Kirkby, so yeah they might be spending money to increase the clubs value but isn’t that just sound business? Securing the value to increasing the value whilst not placing the business in debt seems a pretty good business model to me. N yeah I dislike calling my hometown club a business but in the real light of day that’s exactly what football has become. Some owners are better at it than others, take a peek 32 miles down the East Lancashire road and you’ll see how to not run a football club.
Going back to player investment. We have spent quite a bit of money in recent years, though I feel not always in the required areas. We were crying out for midfielders last summer but we spent a potential £85 million on Darwin. Personally I didn’t and still don’t see the benefit but hey LFC could be playing the long game on that one. Also we’ve bought quite a few players for the LW, again I ask why so many when midfield was desperate for fresh blood. Oh we did sign Melo….on loan. 13 minutes at a cost of??????
So here is the question.
Who is to blame, if anyone on what’s been going wrong over the last few years. Don’t hit me with we’ve won this and won that because I know we have. The point is why allow a winning formula to age and stagnate when like for like investment would have been more wise than allowing us to deteriorate into the mess we were in before the system change, which is another question I’ll ask in a bit.
Blame.
Who should we blame for our massive drop off this season? FSG for not investing in the right areas and penny pinching
Should we blame Klopp for sticking with a disfuntional formation, using the same knackered players until the penny dropped and he changed the system? Was it too little too late?
Are the coaches at fault for advising the system was good?
Are the medical team at fault for managing injuries incorrectly?
Are they all culpable for a complete burn out of the team and ideas or are none of the above?
This is 4KK. Have your say.
