Like London buses…
Just a quick one today troops as I only saw highlights of the game. It looked like it was going to be one of those frustrating games, where despite our almost 40 attempts on goal, we couldn’t seem to find the back of the net.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man however as the much maligned Darwin Nunez came off the bench to break Brentford hearts and like London buses, having waited all day for one, two came along at once as Nunez bagged himself an injury time brace.
The Nunez enigma continues then. I’d love nothing more than for this to be the catalyst that kick started Nunez LFC career but we’ve been here before so I’m not going to get too excited. Darwin will have his moments however and yesterday was certainly one of them. What it did demonstrate however, is the importance of attacking depth. Salah is having a mini drought by his lofty standards but we’ve seen Jota and Darwin step up and before that, we’ve seen Diaz hit a scoring streak at the beginning of the season and Gakpo more recently. Hopefully we’ll start to see Chiesa get more game time as well now and he’s another with the potential to leave his mark in the second half of the season.
With Arsenal dropping points, we really are in the box seat once more, with one hand on a title that is ours to lose now.
CL begins again this week as well and gives us another chance to rotate the squad. I don’t expect a raft of changes however, as we’ll want to tighten our grip at the top of that league as well.
A good weekend to be a Liverpool fan though and yesterday felt like a massive result, which will hopefully spell the end of our mini slump in form we’ve seen in recent weeks. Walk on!
