Ajax v Liverpool.
Tonight could be a season changer on more levels than one, two or how many other narratives certain quarters take.
Ajax have been around for quite some time, since 1900 in actual fact. They were a 2nd Division team until 1911. I don’t do Google, obviously 🙄 but. In three stints 1915- 25… 1928 -40..and 45-47 Jack Reynolds won 8 Eredivisie league titles. Pretty impressive, no?
During the 60’s they were struggling…in layman’s terms they were shite. During the latter 60s they found some form and won the league quite a few times. In 1969 ( take away the 19 n then we’re talking…too rude🤭) they were the first Dutch club to compete in a European cup final. Can you believe they won it 3 years in a row? Well they did. Between 1971 through to 1973 they were the dominant force on the European stage.
Ajax are steeped in history. They had great players such as Cruffs, Bastard and a few others but I’ve not got the time to diss them all.
We’ve not really played against them often…. I know🤷. Two great clubs that have hardly ever met. But hey,
When Stu was a wee nipper Ajax twatted….. Err, beat us 5-1….yes I know, wtf…but they did but we drew at home 2-2….which eliminated us, basically. We played them again in 2020/21 n battered them ……1-0 twice.
The history of Ajax and Dutch footy in general is how the game is supposed to be played. If money wasn’t thrown around like confetti in the modern game then clubs like Ajax, Benfica too might stand a chance. But hey, football isn’t what it was intended to be.

There are decent clubs like Ajax that try to keep up on the pitch, which they do fantastically well. They are a credit to football.
