Crystal Palace v Liverpool
The last match against Manchester United was a tactical masterpiece from Klopp, getting players up to speed whilst giving Ten Hag and United a false sense how good they are. The “coup de grace” was Nunez appearing to miss a sitter towards the end of the game, which was greeted by United cries of “dodged a bullet” and “waste of money”. Only the more discerning football fans, of the sort that frequents this site, (Ed: what!?) will have fully appreciated the immense skill he showed, with a deft first touch to lift the ball over the bar. The inferior and frankly much cheaper strikers, such as those playing for United, would have gone for the obvious and much easier option of just smashing the ball into the back of the net. This display of skill bodes well for the future and I am confident we can look forward to more of the same as we go into the new season. Salah is going to have to watch out, or he will be in danger of losing his crown to the new boy…
I think we will see fewer players used for this game against Palace, as Klopp starts to focus much more on his first team squad ahead of the start of the new season. I doubt he will play three sides this time, but his preparation won’t have been helped by injuries to jota and Alisson. I am hopeful we will see an improved performance for this game and I have already wiped the United game from my memory bank. One of the very few advantages of getting older is that forgetting things is much easier….
