Darwin Nunez – waste of money, or cheap at half the price?

Well the obvious answer is “it’s too early to say”. People were quite rightly saying it was too early to say when he didn’t score in his first couple of cameo appearances, so you could logically argue it is equally true now that he has scored a few goals, in what was still only a meaningless friendly, intended merely to get the players’ fit again.

It is difficult to argue with that logic and it would be madness to even try. But you know me, so here goes😁

I think it was fair to say it would be too soon to judge him in his first pre season friendlies precisely for all the reasons already given by others. He is new to the Country, doesn’t speak the language, new to the team and the players, not fully match fit (let alone Liverpool fit) and playing only a few minutes in a couple of games.

Turning it on its head though, despite all those factors and limitations, he then scores 4 goals, in one half of football, against a very good side. You have to wonder what’s he gonna do when he settles in ? Clearly, he is no Charlie (Darwin, Charles? – ok suit yourselves) though, as Red pointed out, he could have had his first hat trick for the club, but he went and spoilt it by getting a fourth. Still no one’s perfect.

Ok, there is still the little matter of the elephant in the room. Yes, the bloody man bun which keeps giving me nightmares and flashbacks to Andy Carroll but I will be having a word with him about that. Otherwise, everything looks good and whilst you can’t legislate for factors such as injuries, or personal issues, we know he will have been assessed by the club and will be supported by the team. All in all, things the future is bright, the future is….Red.

What’s your initial thought and what did you think about the youngsters?
