Euro 24: Yes sir, we can boogie!!

The Euros kicks off tonight then with the might Scots taking on host nation Ze Germans in the opening game.

Scotland have had a mixed relationship with Ze Germans over the years. After all, they were directly culpable for that cursed day in 1966 that we’ve never heard the end of. In my lifetime however, they’ve generally been thoroughly appreciated in Scotland. After all, they came to the rescue in the first tournament I can remember – Italia ‘90 and who could forget their gloriously taken penalties in Euro ‘96, ensuring the only thing coming home was a load of dejected England fans in a taxi! They did let us down the last time they played the noisy neighbours though, so they better up their game should they meet them in this tournament!

As for tonight’s game, it’s a bit of a free hit for Scotland, with nobody expecting us to get anything from the game, especially given the fact our first choice CF and both RB’s have missed the tournament through injury. One thing we certainly don’t have is strength in depth and so injuries to key players will hit us hard and even the most optimistic amongst us are concerned about where the goals are going to come from. Ultimately though, after decades of not qualifying for tournaments, we’re just delighted to be there, having now qualified for back to back Euros. Scotland have never made it out of the group stages of a tournament so immortality awaits these boys should they get out the group.

Tough ask tonight but our campaign wont be decided on our game against Ze Germans. A draw would be a great result for us, if we do lose then try and keep the score down at least and for the good of the tournament, stay in it as long as possible, as everyone knows – NO SCOTLAND, NO PARTY!!!

MON THE JOCKS!!!
