FSG, stingy or frugal?

Its been 13 years since they took over our club for what seems now like a massively undervalued price. Have they been of the same stance ever since? Paying as little as possible whilst the value of their asset soars.

Many things can, will and have been said about Fenway, many differing opinions with a wide array of reasons why people behold their opinions.

Are FSG taking care of the club? Are they spending as little as possible hoping success will somehow follow? So many questions that none of us know the actual answer to. We have our opinions but we don’t really know what their master plan is. They might not know the answer to that particular question themselves.

On the back of a not so impressive beginning with little to no real success they employed Klopp to take us forward. Not much really happened until we bought Big Virg and then Ali…..all on the back of the money we fleeced from Barcelona for Coutinho. We thought we were going places and we were but once again FSG sat on their money for most part. A lack of investment in 2020 in the defence created a whole bunch of problems but we somehow managed to scrape 4th spot. Did they learn?

Summer 22 we were crying out for midfielders so we bought a rather expensive centre forward…..only to play him on the wing or even not at all 🤷.

Is this summer any better? 3 midfielders leave plus Naby jack the sicknote lad ( who could never be described as a midfielder, not even a footballer during his time here for that matter ) and OX. We did bring in two quality players and were actively on the lookout for more. Many names were mentioned and then Lavia became the chosen one. Rather than offering a decent amount, say £40 mil FSG pissed about a bit ( a lot ) and then moved on to other targets? No, this drama is still going on. Time is running out. Are we going to reach the end of the window to hear the owners say they tried. Are they going to wait a couple of years like they did with Jude, which is why we didn’t buy a midfielder last summer..,.for them to say, oh, we can’t actually afford him.

No one wants a poorly run club but come on there’s poorly run financially and simply poorly run through lack of investment in key areas.

The fact investment wasn’t trickled down from 2019 to this day ( besides the odd signing ) has created the mess we are in now which does actually require heavy investment due to the lack of priority investment in the past. So far our net spend is around £30/£35 mil. Is that good enough? Yes the window is open for another three weeks but even so, for a club as big as ours is this enough, year on year?

If we invested in the midfield last summer we would no doubt have finished in the top four. Speculation I know but it would have been highly probable. Due to that we don’t have CL football this season but even that is no excuse to not invest due to the fact we have last season’s CL money right now. Next season is the time to worry, especially if we have another poor season.

So, have FSG been stingy or frugal? Or simply incompetent?
