Liverpool 3-0 Aston Villa
I’ll keep this brief as I only saw highlights of the game but it was clear this was our best display of the season so far. Keeping 11 men on the pitch no doubt helped and I think most of us had forgotten what it felt like to keep a clean sheet, which may help focus Virgil’s mind seeing as it happened without him.
Szoboszlai’s impressive start to life at Anfield continued as he opened his scoring account with a superb strike on his weaker left foot. The technique was absolutely out of this world and I suspect it will be the first of many that we see from him. The lad looks an absolute superstar in the making.
I was really pleased to see Darwin start after his heroics at Newcastle and he was a real handful throughout, although we did see the Darwin that struggled at times last season. Missed a couple of sitters, although the first rebounded in off the hapless Villa defender. Really needs to work on his first touch as well, it’s erratic at best and often lets him down in key moments. We know all this though. He’s very much a rough diamond that needs polished. He has all the tools to be a top striker however.
Salah got himself on the scoresheet to round up a good day but could it possibly have been his last goal for the club as rumours of an incoming world record bid for him gather pace? Watch this space.
Good to see Curtis, Gomez and Matip get minutes and especially pleasing in such a dominant performance. Trent limping off is something of a worry, although I did think with the injury to Connor Bradley, it will force Klopp to play Gomez there as a conventional RB and I’ll be very interested to see if we look more solid as a defensive unit.
That’s it then troops, no in depth analysis as I didn’t see the whole game and I’m sure the bones have been well picked already. At least it will stop disqus exploding however.
The latest excruciating international break now awaits us so if anyone has any article topics they’ve been thinking about jotting down, now would be a good time. Walk on!
