Liverpool v Aston Villa
Today is a very special day as Anfield welcomes back Steven Gerrard as a manager. He was arguably our best ever premier league player and he will no doubt get a rapturous welcome from the whole of Anfied and good applause at the end. But, in between, he will get absolutely nothing and he would expect nothing more. There will also be a good welcome for Danny Ings who may well also make an appearance for Villa after coming back from yet another injury of the kind that dogged his Liverpool career. He is fondly remembered though, as he always gave and still gives 100% when he plays. .
Team: Alisson, TAA, Matip, VVD, Robbo, Fab, Hendo, Thiago, Mane, Jota, Salah. There is some doubt over Jota so Firmino might come in though probably not for the full 90 minutes so either Origi or Mini might have to help out.
Footnote: Just in case the Government tries to ban fans from the game due to the rise in the omicron variant, football matches are going to be relabelled as “gatherings” with wine and cheese replacing bovril and pies. You can’t be too careful.
