Liverpool v Wolves
I love the FA Cup and always will until the money men finally get their way and turn it into a minor trophy contested by youth players. Anyway, for now, I still have fond memories of snow covered, claggy, sloping pitches and unlikely results and even more unlikely heroes. The underdogs, metaphorically and sometimes literally, kicking the arses of the pampered prima donnas The making of those ” I was there moments” and the creation of unlikely heroes who grab their 90 minutes of fame and go on to live on forever in local and even National folklore. One time, it was every young persons dream to score the winning goal in the FA Cup final for their team (Yeovil Town or Scarborough) then turn away with arms outstretched and run towards the fans to celebrate… Back to today, now, though and the chance to take a step towards that special day in May when Nike can hopefully announce the release of yet another, overpriced, limited edition, FA Cup winning jersey, Red with blue trim, mmm mmm…..
I expect a few of the youngsters and fringe players will feature in the starting 11 and hopefully we will have reinforcements on the bench and maybe even a rare sighting of the lesser spotted Gakpo. Who knows? Certainly not me, I am just hoping for a pulsating throwback of a game that is full of fight and drama, controversy and dodgy decisions. I want it to end all square at 4-4 with a fight breaking out at the final whistle, and afterwards Klopp snapping at the interviewer and moaning like a drain about the officials, the weather, opposition tactics, Harry and Meghan and unwelcome replays, Ah yes, the good old days and the magic of the FA Cup….
