Liverpool vs Manchester United Match thread
It’s big matches all the way now and they don’t come much bigger than Manu. I have looked back at the head to heads between the two teams and overall they are: 88 wins to Manu; 77 to Liverpool and 67 draws. This is not great news of course but it is worth noting that prior to the advent of the Premier League and Manu’s dominance, Liverpool were actually a couple of wins ahead of Manu. So the challenge is to close that gap once more and there is no better way to start than to do the double over them this year.
If they have taken their medication and are having one of their better days, some of our older posters, such as John, and Greg, will remember the time when Manchester United were a (fairly) big club that won things and dare I say it, even played quite attractive football though you would never know it these days. Ok that was a long time ago but they should not be underestimated. They remain a team with ambition which despite everything will still be hopeful of holding on to a Champions league place by the end of the season.
I know some article writers with less integrity than myself (no names no pack drill) who, whenever we play Manchester United, post a picture of their (caretaker) manager, young Ole and compare it with a picture of Gollum. As I have said before this site is different to others and we place great emphasis on civility and decency. You will not find us stooping so low as to compare the manager of our great adversaries in this way. It would be disrespectful to the history of that once great good club and to a manager who may well one day be regarded as highly as former United managers such as van Gaal, Moyes and Mourinho. So no odious and unnecessary comparisons from me simply the following picture of a manager who in all probability will one day be regarded as a truly great manager of Manchester United by fans of all the other Premier league clubs.
This has always been a difficult game for us even under Klopp and I think he has sometimes played it too cautiously and given them too much respect. This Manu team is on the up and have had its fair share of luck lately but with Maguire and the rest of their defence we really shouldn’t fear them. Providing we don’t allow ourselves to get drawn into any silly wars and rely on our superior skills and team work we should run out the winners.
Team: Alisson, TAA, Matip, Fab, Robbo, Thiago, Hendo, Gini. Mane. Firmino, Salah. If Matip isn’t fit move Hendo to CB and play Jones. If Hendo isn’t fit (and there are some rumours that he isn’t) get drunk.
