Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest 1988 – Best Ever Match?

I am not going to write much about this match because it largely speaks for itself. At the time Forest were an up and coming team challenging Liverpool and quite prepared to show they could go toe to toe with them and match them. Well as it turned out they couldn’t and they didn’t.

I have included two videos below one showing the highlights and one the full match and I recommend you at least watch the highlights to see a Liverpool team at the peak of its powers. This was a game between the two top sides at the time and is equivalent to Liverpool giving Man City a lesson in how to play football for the full 90 minutes . The score could easily have been many more but 5-0 was an absolute spanking and the game has been called the match of the century.

I remember going into the match that Forest players were quite cocky and in particular Steve Chettle their Right back (No2) said he was going to keep Barnes quiet. Watch out for and enjoy then the nutmeg in the build up to Liverpool’s fourth 😉

This was an astonishing Liverpool team with skill throughout the team from the CBs through midfield and the forwards. They could all play and there were creative players galore with Houghton, Beardsley and Barnes in particular running the show – enjoy! If nothing else you can marvel at their shorts.

As a bonus here is another 4KK exclusive with a sneak preview of the new Nike kit being given a workout. Note the designer touch of the shorts being a subtly different shade of red. I quite like it.
