Mo mentum
I thought I would do a quick summary of the match against Villa with the emphasis on short and so, like Jock, I have limited myself to a maximum of 17 pages. Unlike Jock’s though, mine will be light on detail and any semblance of tactical understanding of the game.
First off, the title is intended to acknowledge both the way in which the team has quietly gone about its business under Slot, taking each game as it comes and creating a record breaking momentum. The second is to laud the ongoing contribution of Mo Salah with an assist and goal at the grand old age of 32. The way in which he selflessly passed the ball into the path of Nunez to score the first goal, before he was unceremoniously pulled to the ground, just summed up his dedication to the team and total disregard for his own personal pursuit of goal scoring records.
The potential red card for the rugby tackle on Salah was correctly not given but for the wrong reason. The Ref didn’t think it was a foul (Coote by name, Coot by nature) and waved play on and as Nunez scored there was no need for VAR to review the decision. You could argue that the player escaped a yellow card but as we don’t get any extra points for that I will happily overlook it on this occasion. Nevertheless, I am still calling on the FA to suspend Coote with immediate effect. I bet they won’t listen though😁
Overall I thought we largely controlled the game and should have sewn up things much earlier than we did. (yes I’m looking at you Darwin) Unfortunately, all the while the game is 1-0 the opposition will fancy their chances of snatching a draw and it has to be said Villa did create a number of chances. Fortunately, Kelleher was equal to them all and has once again showed why he needs to move on for his own good. He is just too good to be sitting on the bench. Villa also had a couple of penalty shouts but I think both were correctly dismissed by the Ref. The first one was unwise shirt pulling by Bradley but wasn’t enough to put the player off and the second by Konate was (imltho) just two players coming together with one then deciding to extravagently throw himself to the floor.
With yet another stupid International break coming up it just leaves the question of who is going to take and hold the McMOTM award for the next couple of weeks and there can only be one answer to that which is of course Robbo Mo.
Hobble on troops…
