Just a short one today as I write this with the caveat that I only saw the limited highlights on Match of the day.

Another two goals for Darwin then and we’re starting to see what he’s all about – pace, power and finishing ability. Really nicely controlled finish for his first goal, coming from a beautiful assist from Elliot and we saw that work rate and desire for his second. Unlucky not to get an assist for his troubles as well, after his cross for Salah was well saved.

Speaking of assists, Robbo’s fine form since his return from injury continues as he grabbed another two assists, although for the first, only Bobby will know if he meant that header. If he did, it was outrageous but I suspect he was just helping it on and there was a little luck involved. Still, he and we will take it and it was the perfect response to him missing out on the World Cup squad.

We couldn’t keep a clean sheet however and Alisson was called into action a number of times. Ali has been our player of the season so far for me, our situation could be much worse if not for his excellent performances and anything we do manage to achieve this season, he’ll have played a big part in.

I didn’t see enough of the game to choose McMOTM so I’ll let others decide that. As a team though, we’ve done all we could have in the past couple of weeks, leading up to the pause now for this ridiculous World Cup. We’ve moved up to 6th in the table, 7 points behind 4th spot but with a game in hand.

When battle resumes we should have Jota and Diaz back and I don’t think we can underestimate how important their return will be. Whether or not we’ll sign anyone in January remains to be seen but those two alone returning will make a huge difference. Melo should also be back by then, although how much game time he’ll get by the time he’s fit, I really don’t know.

Anyway, the situation while not exactly rosy, looks a lot better than it did a few weeks ago and I’m really pleased to see Darwin settling in and starting to put some good numbers on the board. Hopefully he has a strong World Cup individually but is eliminated early (selfish I know) and that goes for all our players who are going (especially the English ones 😉).

Anyway that’s it for a while, any articles to keep us ticking along throughout the World Cup will be most welcome. Walk on!
