Seven Wonders of the World
I wrote a post the other days in which I jokingly suggested that Alisson’s header was one of the seven wonders of the World (ho ho bloody ho). Since then, I have decided that although it was intended as a joke, perhaps Alisson (or at least his head) should be declared a World heritage site with immediate effect.
Anyway, in the meantime, I thought I would share my own seven wonders of the Liverpool World by recounting the seven footballing moments I have witnessed in my life that stand out most in my memory. This consists of the jump in the air screaming moments as well as the slow burning shaking your head in amazement as the events unfold before your eyes.
I will invite you to come up with your own seven wonders. For some it will be difficult to come up with as many as seven Yes I’m looking at you Matty. Damn you for being so young 😉 Others like me will have the opposite problem of reducing the list down to just seven. If you do too, then spare a thought for poor old Greg and John 😉 Anyway, without further ado here are my seven wonders.
- 1965 FA Cup final Liverpool v Leeds . I have spoken about this game many times before so I won’t go over the details again but it was the game that made me a Liverpool supporter. The highlight St John’s winning header 2-1.
- 1976 4 May This was Liverpool winning the league title against Wolves and me listening on the radio under the bed covers 1-3
- 1977 16 Mar. This is for Supersub as well. Again I was under the covers fiddling with my tuning knob. This was the match that cemented David Fairclough’s title as “Supersub” when he scored the tie winning goal in the 84th minute in a 3-1 victory over St Etienne in the European Cup.
- 1977 25 May Just two words Tommy Smith. Liverpool lifting the European Cup
- 2005 25 May No one will forget this one. The greatest comeback ever …..
- 2019 7 May Again another amazing comeback against a Barcelona side featuring Messi.
- 2021 16 May. Alisson’s header in the 95th minute. Wow just wow.
