Should He Stay or Should He Go

This is starting to become one continuous series, isn’t it? Well, I’ll do my best impression.
Welcome to another week of Matty’s Ramblings, a 4KK show aimed at anything and everything
related to the club we all love, Liverpool FC! I’m your host, Matty, and today we’ll take another
step into the series! Goodness, that sounds cheesy. Anyways, after examining what’s wrong,
doing extensive scouting on many different players to aid us, and doing a review of each and
every player, I’ll now do a much simpler article, as evidenced by the title. Who should stay and
who should leave? Again, I’m open to discussion on agreements or disagreements.

Alisson: Best goalie in the world on his day who has performed well in the face of adversity.
Let’s be there for him as a fanbase during his time of need. STAY

Adrian: Need I say more? He was good against Sheffield, to be fair. GO!

Caoimhin Kelleher: He’s been a solid backup and is signed through next year. I’d like to keep
him long term, but I doubt he stays after his contract is up. He deserves to start elsewhere.
STAY

Virgil van Dijk: An imperious defender who now has an axe to grind after being knocked out
due to injury. His revenge tour next year against Everton will be one for the press boxes. STAY

Joe Gomez: The extra kick in the crotch we didn’t need after Virgil went down, Gomez’s injury
robbed us of seeing whether or not he could lead the back line long term. Brilliant partner
though, glad to have him. STAY

Joel Matip: The extra kick to the extra kick in the crotch, I’ve long considered Matip a goner.
Yet Klopp has vowed to keep him fit and he’s here for at least three more years due to his
recent contract extension. Might as well see how this new training regimen goes for him, he’s
top class when he plays. STAY

Ozan Kabak: Unless things change quickly, I doubt he stays. Much better to bring someone in
of better quality and of higher potential (say, Duje Caleta-Car, who was supposed to be here in
the first place?) GO

Nat Phillips: I like the guy, he’s done very well for us. With Matip and Gomez and likely a new
CB coming in the summer, though, I’d like to see him get his shot at starting for a Premier
League club. LET HIM LEAVE, BUT GET HIM A GIFT BASKET

Rhys Williams: I think he’s a bit slow, but he certainly doesn’t lack any physicality. A year in the Championship should prove whether or not he’s capable of ever being a Liverpool player. STAY, BUT LOAN

Ben Davies: Had high hopes for him initially, but he seems nothing more than a training cone at this point. GO

Trent Alexander-Arnold: Still barely old enough to buy himself a drink, Trent just needs a bit of consistency to make himself the best at his position once more. STAY

Andy Robertson: An adopted Scouser, Robertson isn’t leaving anytime soon. His play has been
outstanding and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone else at his position. STAY

Kostas Tsimikas: It’s been a rough first year at Anfield for the young Greek, but I really like how he plays and he looked pretty good in his brief cameos for us. Hoping he can provide
Robertson with more rest as time goes on. STAY

Neco Williams: Someone I’m admittedly disappointed in, I’d like to see an experienced option
back up Trent for a year while we let Neco get some seasoning while on loan. Perhaps he’ll be
more than good enough for us at this time next year. But now, he needs to play to see whether
or not his future with us is secure. STAY, BUT LOAN

Fabinho: Our lighthouse in the midfield, capable of doing just about everything. It’ll be
refreshing to have our eraser back in his preferred position, while also hopefully building on the play-making ability we saw from him late last season. STAY

Gini Wijnaldum: I’d love for him to stay, but it’s looking increasingly doubtful that he will.
Thanks for an amazing few years, Gini, you’ve been invaluable to our efforts. I hope we’ve
either already replaced you or plan on doing so because you’ll be missed. LET HIM LEAVE,
BUT SEND HIM OFF AS A LEGEND

Jordan Henderson: The captain will undoubtedly be back to steer the ship out of these
treacherous waters we find ourselves in and guide us to further glory. STAY

Thiago: His first season with us hasn’t gone to plan, but perhaps some stability and freedom
will get him going. Absolute class, I really think he’ll be amazing for us down the line. STAY

James Milner: Let him stay until he retires, he’s still got another year left on his contract.
However, I’d advise him to be more of a leader off the pitch than a consistent presence on it.
STAY

Curtis Jones: The 19-year-old phenom has worked his way into becoming one of Klopp’s
favorites. I’d argue he should at least be in consideration to be a full-time starter next year.
We’ve found Gerrard’s replacement at long last. STAY

Naby Keita: Like Matip, I had long considered him gone. Just like Matip, he was a fine player
but could never stay healthy. However, he’s another one that Klopp appears to be treating with
extreme caution. And, again like Matip, he’s been put on a special training regimen to try and
keep him fit next year. His impact on this team can be seen in our performances since his
absence. The last time he was fit? Our 7-0 win against Crystal Palace. STAY

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: I had high hopes for Ox, but he seems to be a passenger at this
point and, unlike Keita and Matip, Klopp doesn’t seem to be doing much to ensure his
success. If you could consider his departure “high-profile”, then he might be one of the bigger
names to go. This midfield has to get redone and the money has to come from somewhere.
Genuinely like Ox, just not good enough anymore. GO

Roberto Firmino: Despite his recent form, he surely won’t be let go. Right? I mean, he might be better off as a super-sub moving forward, but his contributions either at forward or in midfield, which is where he should be in my opinion, could still give us a lift on many days. Plus, that smile is too good to deny. STAY

Sadio Mane: Tough part is wondering whether or not his recent struggles are age-related or
COVID-related. If they’re COVID-related, glad to bring him back. If age-related, maybe not.
STAY

Mo Salah: Our leading goal-scorer yet again, he’s often been the name bandied about
regarding who we’d sell for Mbappe or Sancho. He should stay, he’s never really let us down
before, but golly it’d be tough to sell either him or Mane for Mbappe or Sancho. Makes sense
as a business, but not sentimentally. Football, however, is no longer a sentimental game. STAY

Diogo Jota: One of the easiest decisions on the list, I’d argue he should start over Firmino and,
if we get Haaland or Jovic, he should start over Mane as well. STAY

Xherdan Shaqiri: Another one whose career never really took off here and is injury-prone. Elliott might already be better than him. GO

Divock Origi: Another easy decision, he needs to leave for his sake and for ours. GO

Harvey Elliott: A rising star in the Championship that Klopp has already detailed a role for next year, expect to see Elliott much more often next year. STAY

Takumi Minamino: Should probably sell to get more profit, but I am somewhat intrigued by his versatility and new goal-scoring ability with Southampton. Perhaps he’s gonna be here for a while after all. STAY?

Rest of the loanees: Couldn’t care less. Sell them off for as much as feasibly possible. GO
