Time to try the 4231?

Why change a tried and tested system? You may ask. The 433 has served us well coupled with the high line, we have won many trophies, have played beautiful football, have been to many finals, why change something that isn’t broken?

We’re just 2 games into the new season and Dimi, you want a change already? No, Dimi has wanted this change for a long while. Let me tell you why….

  1. As much as the other system is absolute joy to watch with it’s high risk, high reward football is it what we need if we are to pip Man City for the league title. Oh their football is so boring?  They strangle opposition and it’s all one sided. Hey I would like that if it’s wins that I get and more trophies.
  2. Our MF is our weak link out of the 3 sections of the pitch also the most injury prone.
  3. 2 in MF gives more stability to a team and balance especially if the fullbacks are bombing forward
  4. Our current crop of MF don’t suit the workman like football our Team used to play a few season back. Thiago, Harvey and Carvalho don’t offer what Gini, Hendo and Millie brought.
  5. Our MF is either too old, leggy or too young and inexperienced. Naby is the only MF player of mid 20s. Those players have aged/are ageing, their injuries are are more and with it they lose speed.
  6. Let’s use our strengths the Forwards and Defence . Bobby, Fabio and Harvey can play as a 10 or the forward ahead of the 2 central Midfielders.
  7. Something just has to give because, as much as people keep saying we had a long season, well hey, we brought that on ourselves. We can’t keep making the same excuse when the opposition score the 1st goal and sit back and we aren’t able to break down defences.
  8. Our current injury list with 2 games on the board. Seriously? 10 injured after 2 games that too with a returning Naby and Tsimi and Naby not even brought on instead 2 players carrying injuries (Hendo and JoeGo) coming on.
  9. What have we done in preseason to warrant it? Have we gone about the 3 weeks with too much intensity? In too short a time period? Over trained, Travelled far and wide and trained too intensely in places we shouldn’t? Also this summer was extremely hot everywhere so not enough R and R? I don’t know. I leave those to all of you to decide….
  10. Our MF while having the numbers are they quality enough? Have certain players regressed? Also Virg, Robbo, Trent and Fabinho not playing at their best is something affecting our game plan.

I say let’s go back to basics. A good Defence is the key to our game or it should be.

WE are taking way too many risks trying to score goals that we are making the defence vulnerable. Let’s go back to keeping a clean sheet and nicking a goal and a win. I want to get back to winning ways. AT this moment in time we have to rethink that game plan taking into account the various factors that I have mentioned. There are probably more.

Let’s just stop conceding especially the 1st goal of the game. It’s not helping our style of football. We have to be less dependent on the fullbacks being the creative outlet. We have to learn to also create centrally. Passing has to be crispier, faster and more accurate. Too much losing the ball isn’t helping either.

I say go back to a bit more of a boring game , a game with control , a game with less conceding and our goals will come.

Let’s Beat the Mancs on Monday. I sure as hell don’t wanna lose that because if we do it will be MU 3 games 3 points and Liverpool 3 games 2 points. And United have been the laughing stock so far. Football can change in just a couple of weeks as we’ve noticed gone from the high of beating City to watching us draw home and away to 2 teams that we should be thrashing.
