What next for Brewster?

After a fruitful loan spell at Swansea that’s seen Brewster score 11 goals in 22 games, what’s next for our highly rated youngster?

Klopp had intended to keep him around this season but as it became apparent he wasn’t going to get the game time, sanctioned the loan to Swansea. What now however? If Origi and Shaqiri move on there could be scope to integrate him into the first team set up and even allow us to be a bit more tactically flexible. It’s a big ask though, to lead the line for the Champions.

Another loan move would seem the most likely then but where? Often newly promoted and relegation threatened teams are touted as probable destinations and while there’s no doubt the experience of playing Premier league football every week would be advantageous, I often wonder how much a season spent in a team that spends most of its time defending and is involved in a relegation battle, really prepares a player to play for LFC. Playing under Steve Bruce at Newcastle for example, would be like night and day to playing under Klopp at Liverpool.

Perhaps a trip up north to spend a season under Gerrard at Rangers would be more beneficial? There, the standard week in, week out wouldn’t be at the same level as the Premier League but he would be playing in a team far more tactically reminiscent of our own than a struggling Premier league team. He would play European football and be involved in a title race where there is a far more demanding fan base and weight of expectation on the team than there will be at a struggling team fighting for survival.

Whatever the answer, the club will have a decision to make soon. There isn’t going to be much of a preseason this summer for Klopp to cast his eye on him and having already missed a year of his development through injury, I don’t think he can afford to spend a season sitting on the bench. Personally, I think another loan would be the best for all parties and reassess his development next season, when hopefully he will have kicked on to the point we won’t be able to ignore him any longer.

In the meantime, decisions decisions Herr Klopp. Walk on.
